Stannah Lifts was founded over 150 years ago and they now provide passenger, platform, goods & service lifts as well as moving walkways and home stairlifts throughout the UK. They are based here in Hampshire at Andover. And their logo is a Swift!
About a year ago they contacted Hampshire Swifts to talk about the potential for adding Swift boxes to their properties in Andover. Following a visit to see them we decided on suitable locations on two buildings, each with a call player. The first was on their head office building and they subsequently arranged for a cherry picker to be used for the installation, as they needed to hire one anyway to carry out some high level maintenance.
Due to logistics, the installation of a double and two single boxes on a second office building not far away had to be done on a later date - in the middle of July.
There was a lovely short grass bank just in front of the building with lots of chalk flower specialities, the rarest of which was Basil Thyme, which also grows on a nearby roundabout.
Thank you to Stannah Lifts for suggesting and funding this project, and hopefully it won’t be long before the boxes are colonised. Interestingly, we saw Swifts overhead on both of the installation days as a few pairs still nest on the local housing estates.
